Andrew W.K!!!

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day at the East River where NYU was hosting a free concert that they got Andrew W.K to DJ! I have loved Andrew W.K since before my first beer and I wouldn't miss the chance to meet him for the world. My friend Alec went with me. We arrived early and it started an hour or two late, but we saw a great band called Oberhofer that we liked a lot. The second band was a little too mellow for our tastes, so we introduced ourselves to Andrew and took a few pictures. With my luck, my camera broke as I took the first picture of Andrew. Thankfully Alec's point and shoot saved the day and we got two pictures anyway. By now, we didn't have time to chat up Andrew too much, but I did get the chance to tell him how much Atlanta loves him and that he should come back soon. We shook his hand again and after a few more words headed off to tackle the rest of the day.

Andrew hasn't been a huge influence on my life, but his songs never fail to put me in a great mood. Whenever I listen to them I can't help but sing and dance along. Watching him interact with the students putting on the event was cool too. He had a beer near where he was working but he was very kind to everyone who came up to talk to him. He seemed to get along with everyone very well and was very well spoken. He's definitely an admirable man. Before going, I watched a video on his website where he was talking about working with Lee Perry, who invited Andrew W.K to co-produce his album Repentance. It was really impressive just listening to him tell stories of this man. He said that Perry taught him to "let the silence take over. To allow things to happen instead of making them happen." It made me think about my behaviors a lot because I'm an assertive person who can sometimes push things too much. I believe in being in the right place for the right time and that things happen the way they do for a reason, even if you don't know what that reason is right away. I realized that sometimes you just aren't supposed to be there for whatever reason and if it's not going to happen I should just let it not happen because it might be for the better. It could be for the worse, but what can you do? Things happen and that's just the way life is. I wish I could have spoken with him more but I honestly don't know what I'd say. Congrats on the wife? Party on Andrew W.K. I hope to meet you again soon.
